dirtgirlβs Happy Song: Educator Kit
Letβs grow joy together!
Hi itβs dirtgirl here! Welcome to the official educator kit for dirtgirlβs Happy Song! This resource is designed to help teachers and educators use music, movement and nature to inspire joy, creativity and emotional wellbeing in early childhood and primary schools.
Letβs sing it loud β together! π±
About the song π»
Happy Song is a vibrant and uplifting song that celebrates happiness, nature and community. With its catchy rhythm and positive lyrics, itβs perfect for engaging children in conversation about emotions, self-expression and the natural world.
Itβs a tune full of sunshine, muddy boots and big love for nature and for each other. Itβs made for singing in the garden, dancing in the classroom, exploring the outdoors, and growing joy wherever you go!

Why it matters
Happy Song began as a tiny idea β that music could be like a seed.
A seed we plant in our hearts, our early learning centres, schools and communities. Not just for a fleeting moment, but a melody and message that grows through seasons β¦ and even lifetimes.
We call it regenerative music β songs that nurture joy, connection and care for the planet and each other.
In todayβs world of rising anxiety, climate concern and digital noise, Happy Song offers something refreshingly different and deeply needed:
π»A shared purpose grounded in kindness
π» A celebration of nature and its calming, joyful presence
π» A reminder that happiness is something we can grow together.
This is a song for thinking, dancing, caring and growing.
For educators, Happy Song is a living resource: a gentle antidote to disconnection, perfectionism and emotional overwhelm.
It invites children (and grown-ups) to reconnect with what truly matters β one moment, one song, one smile at a time.
Resources π»
From Mental Health Month in October and National Recycling Week in November, to end-of-year celebrations in December, summer holidays in January and Valentineβs Day in February β Happy Song can be βplantedβ and woven into real-world events, seasonal themes and your own community celebrations.
New resources will be added to this webpage regularly until February 2026, aligning with these key moments.

Suggested Activities
Nature tattoo
Step outside and gather a few small flowers or leaves (make sure theyβre safe and friendly ones). Write or draw a happy word or picture on a bandaid. Stick your nature treasures onto it and wear it on your arm, hand or clothes!
The Happiness Hunt
Go on a βHappy Huntβ in the garden or playground. Find five things that make you smile β a wobbly worm, a sparkly pebble, a dancing leaf. As the children: βCan you find a sound, a smell, and a colour that feel happy?β Draw or hum your discoveries.
Lyrics artworks
Encourage children to paint or draw a picture inspired by the lyrics of the Happy Song. What does happiness feel or look like? What colours, shapes or pictures match the mood of the music? You may wish to take this activity outside, where the children can be surrounded by their natural world.
The Smile Trail
Lay a path of leaves, flowers, or natural treasures leading to a secret βhappiness zoneβ (a cosy picnic rug or storytelling circle). Play the song softly as children follow the trail β slow, quiet, mindful steps.
Nature walk and sing
Take a little nature walk around your playground or outdoor space. Sing or listen to the Happy Song together and chat about how nature can help us feel happy β and can also be a special calming place when weβre feeling sad, frustrated or angry.
Want to learn how to play the happy song? π»
Learn the chords and play along on guitar, ukulele or piano. Or grab your percussion instruments to keep the beat! Itβs a great way to bring live music into your world and deepen childrenβs connection to the song.
