Each unit is a 4‑week adventure filled with hands‑on activities, videos, songs, and nature‑based learning experiences. Educators can follow the suggested monthly schedule or choose units independently.

 

Unit Overview

 

Unit 1: Get Ready to Get Grubby

This unit is all about getting ready! Meet dirtgirl, scrapboy and Costa the garden gnome. Create your own scrapbook, learn our top tips for getting grubby, and find out how to use garden and outdoor tools safely.


Unit 5: Party for the Planet

This unit is jam-packed with ideas to help you throw your own littlest ever eco-carnivale and fundraise for an eco-project. We learn about World Environment Day and what the ‘environment’ means.

Unit 2: Get Grubby

Get Grubby This unit is all about stepping outside in nature! Connect with nature and explore activities like making a nature heart or a nature crown. Become a weather watcher and sing along to Nature Walkabout. Make a mud kitchen and mud pies!


Unit 6: Get Energy Wise

In this unit, the greenthumbs put on their nature detective hats to investigate what energy is and how they can save it! Discover the top 4 tips for kids for saving energy and sing along to Big Orange Tractor.


Unit 3: Get Funky in the Compost

Learn how to set up a compost, how to look after it, and what to put in it. This is a great way for greenthumbs to observe nature at work, while setting up a compost at your place. Sing along to Get Funky in the Compost.


Unit 7: Get Growing

Learn all about seeds, plants and how to grow an edible garden at your place. Learn about mulching, watering, and how to tell the difference between a seedling and a weed. Sing along to The Planting Song while you grow.


Unit 4: Get Wriggly

In this unit, you can become a worm farmer! Learn how to set up a worm farm and how to look after it. Greenthumbs learn how worms can help break down our food scraps and discover the important role tiny creatures play in nature.


Unit 8: Get Water Wise

Did you know the water on our planet is the same water that was here during the time of the dinosaurs? In this unit, you’ll discover the water cycle and learn how to save and care for our precious water.

 

Unit 9: Get Ready to ReThink Rubbish

In this unit, greenthumbs learn how to reduce, reuse and recycle – and sort rubbish into the right bins. They also discover how food scraps and garden waste can be composted using food and garden organics kerbside bins.

Unit 10: Get Happy

What has happiness got to do with nature and sustainability? Everything! It's all about connection! When kids spend time outside feeling joyful, it helps understand the importance of nature. This unit is also full of ideas for an eco-friendly festive season.
